Internship and Volunteer Opportunities

ColorBurst accepts internship and volunteer applications on a rotating basis throughout the year. Undergraduate and graduate students applying for an internship at ColorBurst may be eligible to earn academic credit. An internship at ColorBurst is a wonderful way to gain experience, build your portfolio and your resume while completing your degree.

We also welcome recent graduates, professionals and seniors to apply as volunteers. As a volunteer, you’ll be using your skills and expertise to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Production Department

Screen Printing Assistant

A Screen Printing Assistant will actively participate in all aspects of print production, including: setting up artwork, burning screens, setting up the presses, mixing inks, and printing. This is a hands-on position, best suited for interns or volunteers with an interest in learning textile screen printing. Flexible hours are available, including: morning, afternoon, and early evening shifts. Weekdays only. Some screen printing experience preferred, but not required. Screen Printing Assistants will be supervised by the Production Manager and work along side individuals with autism and other developmental challenges in our production department.

A Screen Printing Assistant will be expected to:

  • assist in direct print production and set-up (will train)
  • work on both manual and automated presses (will train)
  • make an extra effort to meet deadlines
  • ensure quality control
  • other duties as assigned

We have a strong need for Screen Printing Assistants during the spring and summer months. Internships are unpaid, unless otherwise noted. Students may be eligible to earn academic credit. Students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago or Columbia College, who qualify for the off campus Work Study Program - may be eligible for a paid internship at ColorBurst.

Sales and Business Office

Sales Assistant

A Sales Assistant will work to ensure the smooth flow of information and follow up for existing and prospective customers. Flexible hours are available, including: morning and afternoon shifts. Weekdays only. Outstanding communication and organizational skills required. Experience using Microsoft Office required. Experience using Salesforce preferred. Sales Assistants will be supervised by the Sales Consultant and work along side individuals with autism and other developmental challenges.

A Sales Assistant will be expected to:

  • update and maintain customer data base
  • generate sales leads
  • accompany Sales Consultant at customer meetings, trade shows, and networking events
  • organize and file paperwork
  • other duties as assigned

Internships are unpaid, unless otherwise noted. Students may be eligible to earn academic credit. Recent graduates, business professionals and seniors are encouraged to apply as volunteers.

Art and Marketing Department

Illustration and Design Assistant

An Illustration and Design Assistant will create artwork according to customer specifications, output color separations, and set up artwork to be printed. Flexible hours are available, including: morning and afternoon shifts. Weekdays only. Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop is required. Familiarity with using this software on a Mac (the Art Department does not use PCs) is required. Illustration and Design Assistants will be supervised by the Art and Marketing Director and work along side individuals with autism and other developmental challenges.

Interns will be expected to:

  • create artwork according to customer specifications
  • make adjustments to supplied artwork
  • output color separations
  • ensure quality control
  • assist in the creation of both online and printed marketing materials for ColorBurst
  • other duties as assigned

Internships are unpaid, unless otherwise noted. Students may be eligible to earn academic credit. Students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago or Columbia College, who qualify for the off campus Work Study Program - may be eligible for a paid internship at ColorBurst.
